TFN Police

We would like to introduce you to our police force that has existed for over thirty years and ten years in its current form.

The task before us is devoted to maintaining peace, order and public security in the community, to preventing crime and infringements of the laws applicable in the territory and seeking out offenders.

Our service is currently composed of a director, 4 full time officers along with auxiliary officers and a secretary/dispatch. We have two (2) patrol vehicles identified with our service Logo as well as an unmarked vehicle.

We are equipped with the and trained to use the following; speed sensor (radar), breathalyzer (BAC), to name but a few. We provide protection and service to our community 24/7.

We are funded through a tripartite agreement. It is signed by federal, provincial and the Timiskaming First Nation. Under this agreement, our police force is autonomous and enjoys the support of the Sûreté du Québec and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

We serve a population that is still growing and currently stands at about 700, and nearly 100 youth from 05-19 years. Our community is adjacent to the municipality of Notre-Dame-du-Nord, and has a major highway which passes through it, there for we offer police service to a larger floating population.

The mission of the Timiskaming Police Force and each of its members is to maintain peace, order and public security, to prevent and repress crime and offenses under the laws and by-laws within their jurisdiction and apprehend offenders.

In pursuing their mission, the Timiskaming Police Force members, shall ensure the safety of persons and property, safeguard rights and freedoms, respect and remain attentive to the needs of victims and cooperate with the community in a manner consistent with cultural pluralism.
